The 30 Hour Fast is a wonderful experience that gives students a glimpse into what it feels like for a person experiencing hunger. Along the way through this experience, students will learn and engage in different activities to illustrate some of these struggles. Also we get an opportunity to serve various organizations that are working to end hunger and food insecurity.
Before the Fast
Fasting is a very ancient and spiritual practice. It is done often and very safely among many different faith traditions. To ensure that your fasting experience is a good one, you need to make sure to take the following steps:
- Get a good night sleep Thursday night before your fast and Friday night on your fast.
- Have a Healthy and Filling breakfast and lunch on Friday prior to your fast. This is not a good time to skip a meal. These meals will sustain you for the duration of your fast so it's important to make sure they are balanced.
- Keep hydrated before and during your fast. You will need to bring a refillable water bottle and continue to drink water as we go through our day. Also, we will have chicken & vegetable broth available.
Your Fast begins at 1 PM on Friday March 2nd.
The 30 Hour Fast is a juice & liquid fast so we will have plenty of water and juice available, as well as chicken broth.
Our fast ends with Holy Eucharist at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Altadena at 5 PM on Saturday March 3rd followed by dinner! Parents: Please join us for Eucharist and Dinner! We would love to have you with us as we complete this experience!
Important: This experience is meant to be a spiritual and contemplative experience as well as a fun one! Students should be aware that if for any reason they are not feeling well or do not think they can make it through part of the fast, they can feel free to go to an adult for some assistance at any time. We will have some food available for those students and they can do this privately.
